JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (July 17, 2010)--The National Young Republican Federation named the Jacksonville Young Republican Club, “Large Club of the Year” today.

"We are so excited about this award. We didn’t expect to beat out the tough competition," JYR President JJ Whitson said.

The JYR Club has over 150 members who are kept active with monthly community service, charity, social and political events.

“The club has only been chartered since October 2009, but we hit the ground running, and while we’re thrilled to receive the award our greatest hope is that we’ve made a difference in Jacksonville,” JYR Treasurer Josh Cockrell said.

The JYR club also received the Florida Federation of Young Republicans “Club of the Year” award in June.

“Our time is now and our generation is no longer sitting on the sidelines. We weren’t born to follow, we were born to lead and we plan to continue doing just that,” JYR Vice President Peret Pass said.

The Jacksonville Young Republican Club is a chartered club of the Florida Federation of Young Republicans and is located in Jacksonville, Fla. The club assists local, state and national Republican campaigns and works to improve the Jacksonville community through service projects and political awareness.
