Statement From RPOF Chairman Lenny Curry Regarding The 2012-2013 State Budget
“I would like to congratulate the Republican leaders in the Florida Legislature on producing another responsible, balanced budget. This year, the Legislature was faced with more than a $1 billion shortfall and under the guidance of Senate President Mike Haridopolos and Speaker of the House Dean Cannon, that gap was closed without raising taxes for hard-working Floridians. The Legislature was also able to answer the call of Governor Rick Scott to provide an additional $1.1 billion in K-12 education funding, and I commend Florida’s Republicans’ for their commitment to ensuring a quality education for our children. This year’s budget also provides funding for vital economic development programs, which will help attract new businesses to the state and get more Floridians back to work.
“With this good budget and the passage of Governor Scott’s other two priorities–auto insurance fraud reform and his job creation agenda–Florida will continue to head in the right direction this year. I thank all of our Republican leaders for their hard work this session and for ensuring that we continue to make Florida the best place to live, work and visit.”
